Uruguay recently passed a new law allowing natural citizens of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) to acquire permanent residence in the country within a month. The law, approved at the end of August, will soon take effect, announced Uruguay's Foreign Ministary in a statement.

Citizens from countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia may obtain these rights. The procedures for citizenship can be done at any Uruguayan consular office where applicants will be informed of the day and time to start their paperwork.

"The Law is meant to facilitate access to reights in addition to actions and politics in order to strengthen integration in the region," reads the law's text.

It's also meant to facilitate the process for citizenship of the foreign relatives of Uruguayan citizens.
