Unasur Secretary-General Praises Bolivian Government


Ernesto Samper met with Bolivian officials to discuss the details of the upcoming Unasur presidential summit.


Secretary-General of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) Ernesto Samper traveled to Bolivia today in order to attend high-level meetings with the Vice-chancellors of Unasur member countries. 

The meetings are scheduled to take place tomorrow in the eastern city of Santa Cruz where officials will meet to coordinate the details of the upcoming presidential summit planned for December 4-5 in the Ecuadorean city of Quito. 

Leading up to his discussions with Unasur officials. Samper met with various Bolivian government officials praising their efforts in promoting socially inclusive economic and political policies. 

“For me it is particularly gratifying to return to Bolivia after many years in to find a completely transformed country, a country full of optimism, I think that the government of President Evo Morales has raised the self-esteem for many Bolivians.” Samper stated. 

The secretary-heneral also took time to meet with Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera in which the two discussed the d upcoming presidential summit. 

During the meeting, Samper confirmed that at the upcoming meeting in Ecuador, Suriname will hand over the presidency of Unasur to Uruguay.

Thus far, nine South American leaders have confirmed their attendance at this year's presidential summit in order to celebrate the inauguration of the organizations’ new building headquarters, a 19,523-square-meter building located northwest of Quito. 

Unasur is celebrating its sixth anniversary since it was first created in Brasilia, Brazil in 2008.
