Caracas Hosts Meeting of CELAC Culture Ministers


Caracas, Aug 22.- The protection of the cultural material and unmaterial patrimony is one of the topics to be discussed at the 2nd Meeting of the Culture Ministers of the member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).

The exchange on the experiences by each country in a topic like this, constituted one of the agreements in the recent summit of the organization, held in Cuba, in January 2014.

Gathered at the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry host building in Caracas, the meeting discusses other aspects, such as promoting policies of peaceful culture and socio-economic projects.

A conference on identity and the eradication of poverty was offered in the openign day, by Venezuelan Culture Minister Fidel Barbarito as host minister.

Costa Rican Culture Minister Elizabeth Fonseca, highlighted the role of Venezuela in the unity of the Latin American and Caribbean countries, saying that the nations are all alligned in common objectives.

The meeting is gathering representatives from the 33 member countries of the regional block, and will close with a Final Declaration, stating that culture is a promoter of human development.

The first meeting of the Culture Ministers of Celac, was held in Paramaribo, Suriname, in March 2013.

Projects such as the traveling exhibition of the cinema of the Caribbean, the virtual museum, as well as the festival of the arts of the Caribbean are part of its action plan.
